I only bought this out of curiosity regarding the other reviewer’s references to “extra measures” that aren’t played by Kissin. It sort of disappoints me that Kissin learned it from the Schirmer (Lebert) edition, which is considered to be unauthentic today. I realize the piece wasn’t published while Beethoven was alive, and editors have done their own thing. I also own the Henle, and Alfred’s edition is closer to that. This is a decent and respected edition to play from. Please don’t learn Beethoven from the old Schirmer edition (Bulow), as Kissin did. That’s embarrassing for an artist of his level, and not really acceptable. (Although their Kullak edition of the concertos is very reliable).

This edition of the piece is very accurate, clearly printed and has some history of the piece at the front.

I used this with one of my piano students. She had the very large classical waffle bound variety book with this piece in it.
(I cannot remember the title) When I compared this edition, I realized that her book was missing about 2-3 lines of music in the second section of the first theme. I was very glad I had purchased this edition mainly since it is slightly larger print for me to be able to see more clearly while teaching her. Who knew that her book was incorrect! It's always a good idea to compare editions when studying a piece. I've found Alfred editions to be very reliable.

This edition has extra lines and notes in chords not found in other editions. Most recordings do not have these extra lines or notes.
