Johann Sebastian Bach was the first great musician to disregard the rules of harmony and rhythm that were strictly followed by other composers. I use a mix of Duarte and Lorimer for the 1st Cello Suite but about 75% Lorimer.

Johann Sebastian Bach was the first great musician to disregard the rules of harmony and rhythm that were strictly followed by other composers. This fact alone helped to make him the forerunner of musical composition as we know it today. Born the son of a violinist in Eisenach, Germany, in 1685, he received his first musical training on the violin. At the age of 10, he went to live in the home of his brother Christoph, who taught Johann to play the harpsichord and the organ.

What sets Lorimer’s arrangement of Suite 1 apart and facilitates performance of this challenging but worthwhile piece, is the fact that he has provided adequate right-hand fingering and an extraordinary amount of left-hand digitation- all contributing to the musical rendition of an outstanding transcription.

The English Suites, BWV 806–811, are a set of six suites written by the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach for harpsichord (or clavichord) and generally thought to be the earliest of his 19 suites for keyboard, the others being the six French Suit.

The English Suites, BWV 806–811, are a set of six suites written by the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach for harpsichord (or clavichord) and generally thought to be the earliest of his 19 suites for keyboard, the others being the six French Suites, BWV 812–817, the six Partitas, BWV 825-830 and the Overture in the French style, BWV 831. They "probably date from around 1713 or 1714".

Originally written in the key of G major, Michael Lorimer has transcribed Bach s Cello Suite 1 (BWV1007) for guitar in D major, with the sixth string dropped to D. In his preface, Lorimer notes that the guitar lends itself well to transcriptions of cello music because the two instruments occupy a similar range and the lute-like style-brisé (broken chord) textures of this music invite performance on our modern instrument. Guitar transcriptions from cello literature are not new to the guitar repertoire. Although the guitar per se did not exist during Bach s time, Bach himself is known to have transcribed his own cello music for the Baroque lute. What sets Lorimer s arrangement of Suite 1 apart and facilitates performance of this challenging but worthwhile piece, is the fact that he has provided adequate right-hand fingering and an extraordinary amount of left-hand digitation- all contributing to the musical rendition of an outstanding transcription.

Arrived intact and undamaged. Could have went for some sturdier packaging though.
EDIT: Bless the delivery driver for putting it in my storm door and not just on my porch. Much appreciated!!

This is one of my favorite pieces of music. It's not easy to play, but sounds beautiful. I wish it was in key of C instead of D, and so I can only give it 4 stars.

Nice transcription. I like it better than any other one I've found.
