Egyptian History and Art book

Egyptian History and Art book. The Egyptologist Annie Quibell, ne Pirie (1862-1927), became a student of Sir Flinders Petrie, copying wall-paintings and inscriptions at his Saqqara excavations, where she met her husband, who was an inspector for the Egyptian Antiquities Service.

The very recent discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, 'just as the book was going to press', enthuses Quibell with prospects for the future.

She advises that it should be skimmed through before any visit, 'sufficiently to get an impression of the great length of Egyptian history', but can also be used afterwards to follow up any particular interest. The very recent discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, 'just as the book was going to press', enthuses Quibell with prospects for the future.

This book brings together ancient Egyptian history, and art and archaeology in one incredible volume. The book is written by Richard H Wilkinson. It covers a comprehensive survey of all the ancient Egyptian temples, including Luxor, Karnak, and those on the Nile delta, oases and Nubka. Veteran Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves examines the Nile valley topography, the composition of the workforce, specific tomb sites, and the royal monuments erected for a pharaoh’s afterlife. History and archaeological facts come alive in The Complete Valley of the Kings. The book traces the process of building these magnificent structures, how they were decorated, and how they functioned.

Accompanying him and sharing in his work on site, she was keen to popularise the marvels of ancient Egyptian civilisation, writing several works for the lay reader.

I enjoyed the stories better in this one than I did in the last fairy tale book I ordered. I liked the Harry Potter references in the first one. (One of the characters being named Hermione and the whole Philosopher's Stone bit.) I also liked how in the second story, the blind boy got his sight back. The other 2 stories were forgettable.

The Fairy tale books that were free on the kindle books site are all very long and worth adding to my library. However, the stories are for children who are able to pay attention to a long story line. Not good short stories for younger kids.

I have enjoyed all of the free fairy-tale type stories available for the Kindle. I have read many of them in the last few months, including this one. A few weeks after finishing this book, it still stands out as one of my favorites. After seeing that not very many readers have reviewed this book, I felt compelled to share my opinion. If you like to read fairy-tale type stories for children (Grimm's fairy tales and the like), then this book is highly recommended.
I also thought the themes of the stories were pretty original, when compared with other, older fairy-tales. The reader isn't always 100% sure how the story would turn out.

Some of the tales are mildly interesting, but they are so wordy and dilute as to be a bother. The overt Christian moralizing doesn't help.

Godly advice, Biblical truth, and a good story, all wrapped up in a compendium of tales. Not what I expected, but a wonderful surprise.
